Adelle has proved to be an outstanding 800 metre runner – the Surrey under-17 girls county champion for the 2nd year, the Sussex Schools champion for the 3rd year and ranked 5th in the UK.  She is ranked number one in the UK for her age group in 600 metres and came 4th against more senior runners at Kelly Holmes Elite Athletes Camp – finally she is this years Surrey County bronze medallist in 200 metres and has set personal best times for all distances from 200 to 800 meters. She has amazed us all by winning the senior women’s 400 metre Gold Medal after only taking part in the event as a training exercise and achieved a lifetime best of 57.49 seconds. Adelle is just 15 and runs for Guildford and Godalming Athletic Club. We are hope to see her run in the Olympic Games in London in 2012.

Every year, literally thousands of students aged between 15 and 19  travel the world to expand their horizons at little financial cost.

Few young people living in Britain are aware of the opportunities available through these Rotary programmes, so you could be in a very advantageous position.

If you would like the challenge of experiencing other cultures by going abroad for weeks or even months, there is a good chance that you will find what you are looking for in the wide range of activities available.

A little research could lead you to the adventure of a lifetime, so make it happen for you!

If the idea of an overseas camp or exchange does not appeal, you may prefer the challenge of a Rotary Youth Leadership Award programme of activities at one of several locations in England. The certificate for leadership skills which is awarded at the end of the course is recognised by the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme.

Rotary can also assist teenagers in setting up and running both Interact and Rotaract Clubs. Interact Clubs are for school pupils ranging in age from 14 to 18, whereas Rotaract covers the age range from 18 to 30.

Woolsack would like to start a Rotaract or Interact Club in Godalming  if there is sufficient interest. Please contact us if you and your friends would like to be founder members.

If you are interested in the local Young Chef or the Youth Speaks Competitions, these are organised annually by our Mother Club, the Rotary Club of Godalming.

District Sports Presentation awarded to Adelle Tracey by Ian Coult, Woolsack President
Each year clubs are invited to nominate youngsters for the District Sports Funding Programme.
This year £250 was awarded to five youngsters in our District who show sporting potential covering Baseball, Sailing, Volleyball and Golf. Through the District Sports Officer, Simon Edmands, our own Mike Poulter has nominated Adelle Tracey as our young sports personality for the past couple of years and who is currently on the Go for Gold programme.

The RYE sends 'thousands' of young people, aged 15-25 on the adventures of a lifetime. If you are ready for a challenge and the rewards of living in another country, then our programme will enable you to discover yourself and obtain a broader view of the world.

The RYLA is Rotary's leadership training programme for young people. RYLA participants can be ages 14-30, but most clubs and districts choose to focus on a narrower age range, such as 14-18 or 19-30.

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.

Rotaract is an organisation for 18-30 year olds with clubs throughout the world. It enables members to meet people, try new activities, and make a difference in their local community.

SportsAid is the charity for sports people, helping the next generation of young British sportsmen and women to succeed. We offer help at the start of the journey, when, more often than not, Mum and Dad are the solitary sponsor.

Rotary Young Chef aims to encourage young people to develop cookery and presentation skills whilst considering healthy food options, planning, preparation and scheduling.

The competition aims to offer young people the experience of speaking on a public platform as a member of a team. The teams are entered by local Rotary clubs selected from schools, colleges and youth training schemes.

It is for young people between 14 and 25 who want a taste of adventure. No previous experience is necessary. Most voyages are for all male or all female crews. We also provide a number of voyages for people who have disabilities.

Sport Godalming aims to develop and encourage participation in sport, promote local events, raise awareness of local sports issues, support local sports organisations and provide first class facilities in the local area.
