RIBI Club 1770 - District 1250

Registered Charity Number 1079545

The Charity Chuck was introduced by Founder Member David Harden, pictured on the right with Ian Russell, the 2004/2005 Club President of Woolsack.

Sheets are fixed on the ground to collect any money which is chucked through open car windows. The collection point is manned by a couple of Rotarians with buckets. When the cars are flowing freely, catching the money can be quite an art, as demonstrated by Tony Davis in the photo at bottom right. On the other hand, if there is a traffic jam at the exit, the value of donations drops noticeably.

The Charity Chuck and car parking for the event are great opportunities to raise the profile of Rotary. We take the opportunity to chat briefly with many of the visitors to the Amazing Thai Festival as they leave.

There are some interesting stories, like that of the young couple who took a wrong turn off the A27 and thought that they were in the queue for a different  event located an hour’s drive away in Sussex.

Strong arms and sturdy containers are needed to hold all the coins. It can take  three days to count the money, some of which is in pennies, foreign currency and even buttons!

If the bank is warned in advance that a large deposit in coins is about to be made,  an extra teller can be put on duty to avoid delays to other customers.
