Can we help you?

Please contact Godalming Woolsack if you are seeking a donation for a deserving charity. Although Committee Budgets are agreed at the beginning of the Rotary Year in June, the individual committees decide how their allocation of funds will be spent as the need arises throughout the Rotary year.

2008/2009
The Meath Epilepsy Trust, a local Godalming charity, was the club's main charity for the 2008-9 year. On June 1st. Jane Sweatman and Colin Stokes, both Trustees from the Meath, joined members of Godalming Woolsack and their partners to receive a cheque for £2500.
Jane said that the Meath was very grateful for the support of the club and the money would be used to help purchase some urgently needed transport needed to ferry residents into Guildford and out for day trips such as Chichester, London Eye and Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
Jane described the work done at the Meath, by staff and volunteers, in helping those with disability to lead as independent a life as possible.
Their mission is to bring normal life experiences to all no matter how severe their condition.
The 64 residents live in 7 units each with its own kitchen, lounge and separate bedrooms.
Residents are encouraged to participate in managing their units and planning social and sporting activities.
The Meath is proud of their well equipped gym which can be booked by the public and their Art House which has achieved success in exhibiting in London and now offers a range of painting and cards for sale.
2008/2009 President Ian Coult presented a cheque to Jane Sweatman
Ian Bowell nominated The Samson Centre as his chosen charity. The Samson centre was opened in 2005 for suffers of MS (Multiple Sclerosis, a progressive unpredictable disease of the central nervous system which causes spasmodic numbness through to paralysis) by giving both the suffers and their carers’ practical and emotional support.  Initially accepting 40 members, this has now risen to a staggering 140!
The charity has managed to raise sufficient capital to build new premises, diversify available treatments and more than treble its membership.
The charity provides one-to-one and group physiotherapy sessions as well as supervised fitness instruction, specialist talks and the provision of drop-in clinics with an MS Clinical Practitioner supplied by the Royal Surrey Hospital. Samson stresses that they remain continually grateful to local groups such as the Rotary Club of Godalming Woolsack for their ongoing support. This enables them to further improve the facilities and provide more treatment rooms, a larger more efficient BOT facility and more private counselling facilities. Their success has simply amazed us all!

Skillway's aim is to raise the self-esteem and motivation of teenagers through apprentice-style teaching of manual skills in its own workshops by skilled craftsmen. The pressure of academic work under the National Curriculum and the implications of League Tables can lead many students to undervalue themselves. By achieving certificates that can lead to NVQ or Accreditation under the Open College Network from one or more of our programmes, Skilway hopes to change this by encouraging the concept that success can lead to success.

President Ian Smith has nominated Skillway as the Club’s main charity of his year. Skillway is a beneficiary of the Warehouse Christian Trust which was the Club’s chosen charity 2003/4. Club members have also been tutors at Skillway.
